This is a three page frontline letter written in Europe on September 26, 1944. (The 83rd Division completed a movement into Luxembourg the day before this letter was written.) There is excellent content in the letter. Hamby wished that the war would end, and he could not see how the Germans could hold on much longer. He states that if the Germans didn't soon give up that they would just have to kill them all, and that perhaps then there would be no more wars and his son would not have to go through the same things that he had.
... "I am just fine, only wish this old war would hurry up and get over with and I could hurry home to you honey... Honey there isn't any news, just the same old thing. Every day is just alike. I don't even know when Sunday comes. But honey, I don't see how this can last much longer over here. And then I can come home to my love for ever and ever...
... I do wish them dog gone Jerries would give up. But maybe when we get them all killed there won't be any more old wars, and Junior won't have to go through what I am." ...
